The Last Play
We’re down to the final play. Just a few seconds left on the clock.
Before the whistle blows, I want to take a moment to reflect on what we’ve accomplished together. Thousands of doors knocked. Hundreds of phone calls made. Dozens of forums, coffee chats, community events, and countless conversations. Each one has helped shape this campaign into something real and deeply connected to the people of Tacoma.
For this week’s story from the trail, I want to share a message that hit me right in the heart. After I knocked on someone’s door this weekend, I received this email:
Dear Mr. Hines,
I don’t know if this message will get to you, but I want to let you know that when you stopped by my door today and handed me your voters brochure; it inspired me to do something I have never done in my life: VOTE!
Like, I really sat down and went through all those running for service positions and READ about who they are and what they stand for!
Thanks for really, really changing the course of my day!
I have finally found my ‘voice’ to VOTE!
That message reminded me exactly why I’m doing this. Why I’ve spent hours away from my family, knocking on doors, attending events, and talking with residents across our city. I have a deep commitment to service and a deep belief in Tacoma. I want to make sure our city works for more people, that it’s a place more families can call home, and that everyone can feel proud to live here.
In my time on the council, we’ve made real progress on housing, public safety, infrastructure, and addressing homelessness. And while there’s still a lot of work to do, I believe we’re closer than ever to building a Tacoma that truly reflects the best of who we are.
As we enter the final moments before Election Day, I’m proud of everything we’ve done. Now it’s time to finish strong. If you haven’t voted yet, please do. If you’ve already voted, remind your friends, your family, and your neighbors to turn in their ballots. Every single vote matters in this race.
Finally, I want to say thank you to every volunteer, every member of the campaign team, and everyone who has stepped up to knock on doors, make phone calls, put out yard signs, and spread the word. We would not be in this position without you. Your energy, commitment, and belief in this campaign have carried us all the way to the end and for that I am deeply grateful.
Let’s give it everything we’ve got until the final whistle. No regrets. No second-guessing. Just one last push to the finish line.
Let’s go win this thing.
