As chair of the Government Performance and Finance Committee, I remain committed to ensuring our city continues to improve our budgeting process to ensure taxpayer dollars are used to address our city’s challenges with effective solutions. That requires emphasizing transparency, accountability, and fiscal responsibility through the budgeting process.
To address homelessness effectively, a comprehensive approach is required. Our city needs to implement compassionate assistance to vulnerable people experiencing homelessness. That means actively connecting them with the resources they need to transition to the next part of their lives.
I believe ensuring a safe Tacoma is the most important responsibility of our city. That’s why I supported the Tacoma Crime Plan, a research-backed plan that employs “hot spot” policing in the near-term, problem-oriented/place-based policing in the mid-term, and a focused deterrence strategy in the long term.
Providing basic government services – with excellence – improves the quality of life for residents and has a positive impact on economic growth and development. Prioritizing upgrades to city infrastructure helps to attract businesses and encourage economic activity. Which – in turn – leads to jobs growth and a boost to our city’s economy.
